We at Green Tourism Active are thrilled to announce that our standard has been officially recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.
What is the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)?
The GSTC is an independent and neutral NGO which “establishes and manages global sustainable standards with the aim of increasing sustainable tourism knowledge and practices among public and private stakeholders”. The organization, a coalition of 37 partners and initiated by the Rainforest Alliance, the United Nations Environment Programme, the United Nations Foundation and the United Nations World Tourism Organisation in 2007 and is now leading a global standard for sustainable tourism development.
What does it mean to be GSTC-recognized?
This means that our 3-tier programme, which has been developed by Green Globe International auditor members, has been reviewed by GSTC technical experts and the GSTC Accreditation Panel. In short, the awarded status affirms that our standard has been accepted as a globally compliant standard. It also emphasizes our commitment to promoting sustainable tourism products and services, which includes hotels, guest houses, lodges, restaurants and tour operators.
How do our members benefit from the recognition?
GT-Active members will have peace of mind knowing they are assessed and benchmarked against global criteria. These criteria reaffirm GTA’s commitment to world-class sustainability practices. The fact that our members benefit from a 3-year programme as opposed to annual recertification makes the programme a great choice financially.
